Family Camp 2015

Posted by JonC on June 24, 2015

140 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, leaders, parents and siblings descended on Ennerdale Scout Centre for a jam-packed weekend of action, adventure and fun.  We think it's safe to say that if you weren't there, you missed out on a great weekend.

With the bottom half of the site heaving with tents of every shape and size we got things under way with a "wide quiz" which saw people hunting for answers on CDs that we'd strategically hidden around the site.

The camp programme got underway in earnest on Saturday morning with young people and parents trying their hands at everything from archery to tie-die t-shirts, pyrography to axe throwing and air rifle shooting to glass engraving.  A big thanks to Colin for showing us just how musical you can get with some hose pipe and plastic funnels - and kudos Scout Tom for sheer lung power in exploding a rubber glove whilst blowing a perfect note!

For those who wanted the chance to let off a bit of steam, our highly popular slippery pole pillow fight made a return appearance and having seen the idea at Wintercamp we had a go at the Scouting version of Angry Birds.

The sun finally broke through on Saturday afternoon meaning that anyone who went up to the woods was sure of a big and very wet surprise as the Beavers and Cubs waged an epic water battle with the Scouts.

Thanks to Alex for leading the campfire on Saturday nigth, and to the Scouts and Explorers for their brilliant skits.

Sunday morning was a chance to have another go at the main activities, and we were delighted to welcome the Cubs and young leaders from 25th Carlisle who'd been staying in the bothy.  The pillow fight certainly saw some increased competition following on from Saturday night's impromptu rugby match!

Thanks to everyone who came, and a big thanks to the parents for getting stuck in to help run activities, prepare meals and pack-up on Sunday afternoon.  We'd also like to say a special thanks to Mike and Margaret for coming to run the catering for us.

Hopefully you all had a great weekend, keep the end of June free for Family Camp 2017!
