Cool Camping

Posted by JonC on January 13, 2015

WinterCamp_2015.JPGWith a slightly wary eye on the weather, our Scouts joined up with over 1000 other young people in Kielder forest for an action packed weekend. Camping at the start of January might sound like a foolish thing to do, but we were attending one half of the national WinterCamp organised by Scout Association HQ (the second half runs at the home of UK Scouting at Gilwell Park near London).

Over the course of the weekend our Scouts got to try their hand at an awesome array of actvities; they went caving (in a specially converted cave bus), segwayed around the forest, drove mini-tanks, quadbikes, argocats and JCB diggers.  As if that wasn't enough there was a massive climbing wall to be tackled, a huge zipwire through the trees, the chance to broadcast our own radioshow, fairground rides, backwoods cooking (we've learnt a new way to mkae popcorn - be warned), Wii challenges, fencing, two cinemas and disco. ... Phew! (and we still haven't listed everything we got up to)!

If the activities weren't enough of a challenge on their own, our Scouts survived pretty much every type of weather we could imagine - gale force winds, rain, sleet, hail, sun and snow - nothing seemed to phase the Scouts and we made good use of the snow by making snowballs!

Whilst we're waiting for the tents to dry out and the washing machine to finish the pile of very muddy clothes, have a look at our photos from the weekend on white-flickr.png
